Heather Breight
Educational Philosophy
My goal as a teacher is to help students become independent thinkers, readers, and writers through engaging direct instruction, whole-class discussion, and development of critical thinking skills. I also think that literature is one of the greatest ways to learn and expand our understanding of the world and helps us to gain one of the most important qualities: empathy! For this reason, my English classes focus heavily on development of reading skills and analysis of literature, so we will read a variety of literature, in terms of format, time periods, content, and theme. In all my classes, I want to ensure students learn skills that they will draw upon throughout high school and beyond, helping them to become successful in all future endeavors.
